The previous IGNITE meeting was held on October 4th, 2012 at Mt. Alvernia in the 3rd floor conference room. Meetings such as these are of similar routine. There were many new faces, welcomed warmly as usual. This night a different surprise happened: the power went out. Of course our IGNITE group is fearless because even in the dark, Jesus is our beacon of light, as we are all gathered there for Him.
Holy half hour with praise and worship began in the dark with the candles lit. The small chapel was peaceful and quiet. Plenty of time for meditation and prayer. Andy led praise and worship and strummed on his guitar. The group recited the “Apostles Creed.”
Afterwards, the meeting proceeded to carry on in the darkness. Many people used their cell phones for light. Joshua led theological formation and pieced together a reading taken from one of Pope Benedict XVI’s speeches having to do with the Year of Faith (Document soon to be uploaded or linked to this post). Immediately following, the group broke up into three smaller groups for reflection and talk about what they had read. This is common for most ignite meetings. It is crucial in our Faith to be able to ask questions and hear other perspectives on certain topics. Small group discussion took about 20-25 minutes or so.
Following small discussion, Luigi said some closing words, wrapping up the talk and advertised Proud to Be Catholic week coming up (check the calendar for more info!!). Upcoming announcements were made by Christine and Tom.
Fellowship was at the Dutchess Diner in Poughkeepsie across from the Galleria Mall. About 15-20 attended and hung out, chatted and ate yummy food with fellow friends and Catholics.
Most IGNITE meetings follow this pattern (if you are new to, or interested in IGNITE). We change up fellowship every now and then, and are always open to suggestions on what else we can do and where we can go. Theological formation also is changed up a bit as well depending on where the Holy Spirit leads us in what we need to know and learn and teach about our Faith.
Coordinating IGNITE involves a lot of prayer but also a lot of suggestions! If you are a consistent member or have shown up from time to time, PLEASE don’t hesitate to leave us suggestions in our box, drop us an email, comment somewhere on the site or hit up someone you know in core. We want to know what it is the group may be craving and follow where the Spirit takes us.
May God Bless you and bring you peace,
Nicole (PR Team).
